Welcome to the first real edition of the Headlocked newsletter - on Tuesday, as promised. Let’s face it, if we couldn’t hit this first deadline…we’d be in trouble, eh?
The Lull
I’m going to assume if you’ve subbed to this newsletter, you’re aware of the Kickstarter for the second volume of Tales From The Road. If not, let me drop the link HERE.
Right now, we’re in the phase of the campaign known as the lull. What’s the lull, you ask? Anyone who’s ever run a KS campaign will tell you that you generally get 33% of your backers in the first two days and 33% in the last two days.
This is obviously not my campaign, but representative of the curve.
If you do the math, you’ll realize that means the other 33% is spread out over 26 days…and it’s mentally and emotionally brutal.
You tell yourself you won’t stare at it…but you’re lying.
And it’s not about the money at all…I mean, obviously you want to hit your funding goal…but for me, its always about wanting people who want to read the book. The more people we get, the easier it is to make more.
So, we’re out here in the lull. If I seem like a wreck, it’s because I am.
Upcoming Appearances
Usually, NYCC signals the beginning of the end of con season for me but this year is definitely an unusual year with a lot of spring and summer cons backloaded into the fall/winter b/c of the pandemic. As it stands right now, here’s my confirmed appearances for the rest of the year.
October 23rd - Showcase of Legends 5 - Albany, NY. I’ll be here along with Ric Flair, Jerry Lawler, Trish Stratus, and Jeff Jarrett among others.
November 26th-28th - SDCC Special Edition - San Diego, CA. This was rescheduled from its normal weekend in July to Thanksgiving weekend. I’m still working on appearances but I’ll be a part of three panels this weekend (I’ll drop them once the schedule has been finalized as it’s still shifting around) If you’ve ever been dying to go to an SDCC, this might be your best chance as there are some tickets still available.
December 2nd -5th - Emerald City Comic Con - Seattle, WA. Another con rescheduled from its usual slot. I’m still working on a guest list here but Jerry Lawler is tentatively scheduled to be making his return to Seattle along with me. I’ve also been approved for two panels here as well!
December 10th-14th - C2E2 - Chicago, IL - Three huge cons in three consecutive weeks. This is going to be one of the most insane stretches of my career. Currently, we have The IInspiration confirmed for Fri/Sat. We also have 2 other guests tentatively scheduled. We also have a big wrestling and comics panel approved for this one!
This is all I’m scheduled for at the moment. We have to finish this Kickstarter campaign and get it fulfilled as well…so it’s going to be a really busy year. It’s not hard to imagine me adding a wrestling appearance or two since I really do miss attending shows…but I’ll update everything here!
Upcoming Collaborations
We have a lot of cool stuff in the works between now and June of next year and we’ll be updating this as we’re contractually able to.
But I did want to drop our next big Tales From The Road collaboration is with The IInspiration. The story is super personal for Jess and Cass but it’s also really cool and Doug is doing some of the best art of his career on it! So keep your eyes open for that!
Favorite Thing of the Week
Every week, I’m going to try and end the newsletter with a few things I’ve seen in the last week that have made me smile.
*Friday Night Wars - toxic social media discourse aside, it was fun to see WWE and AEW go head-to-head. As you can see, I chose no sides. It’s fun to see people fired up about wrestling.
*GCW’s Hammerstein Announcement - Giancarlo Dittamo is such a talented storyteller and will probably never fully get the credit he deserves for his role in getting eyeballs on GCW with his dope JJ Spring Break videos. But this might be his crowning achievement….I got goosebumps watching this.
* They Live Funko Pops - How cool are these? Definitely a must-have when they drop!
If you’ve made it to the end, I hope you dig our first attempt at newslettering! See you next Tuesday. In the meantime, check out the Kickstarter if you haven’t and if you have…please help spread the word!
Thanks!
-Mike
